Dr. Roman Bonn is a German and European patent attorney with over 30 years of experience in IP, including licensing & litigation as well as managing large IP portfolios.
He holds a master in physics from the Technical University of Darmstadt/Germany with majors in semiconductors and fluid mechanics and a PHD in mechanical engineering from the University of Kassel/Germany.
Starting his career as an in-house patent attorney at Siemens AG in the early 90th he was in charge for IP matters in various business areas such as power generation, semiconductor, telecommunication and automotive. Before joining Continental AG he was managing IP counsel at Siemens in Munich for the Automotive Division. At Continental he was in charge first for the Automotive Division including establishing and consolidating regional IP departments in major Automotive countries, in particular China. In 2009 he took over the position as Global Head of IP, including the Tires, Industry and Automotive business until June 2025. In this capacity he has been involved in numerous NPE and SEP litigations as well as licensing negotiations.
He represented Continental for IP matters in various industry organisation like the German Automotive Industry (VDA) and the German Electronic Industry (ZVEI) and has been involved in political discussions on SEP licensing in the European Union and Germany.
